Mayor Walaker To Kick-Off Walk This Way 2011

Celebrate spring, lower flood induced stress, and get in shape for summer by joining Walk This Way 2011! This annual series of spring walking events will begin on Tuesday, March 29 at noon with a walk starting at the City of Fargo Commission Room through the downtown skyway, led by Mayor Dennis Walaker. Chili will be served after the walk.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, walking helps to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and stroke, and also helps reduce cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, manage weight, and improve mood. Research has also shown that walking helps calm nerves and stimulate relaxation.
There is no cost to participate and participants are eligible for prize drawings at each event. Individuals who attend five or more walks are entered into a final drawing for a chance to win a grand prize, including prizes from Homewood Suites, Hornbacher’s, West Acres, Scheels, and many more. Registered participants can ride free on Metro Area Transit buses during Earth Week, April 17-23, 2011 by showing their “Walk This Way” passport. Visit to register for the walks, view walking route maps, and receive updated event information. Participants may also register at each event.
